Trombonist and singer Chad Fisher and his band (Birmingham, Al.) perform a variety of musical styles, exploring the roots of traditional jazz alongside an eclectic blend of influences. Ranging in performance from rock, soul, and Afrobeat to interpretations of honky-tonk country classics, the band in recent years has developed an especially enthusiastic following for Fisher’s own songwriting that reflects these many influences, and on occasion, it’s repertoire of deep-swinging 1920s and ’30s jazz.
The band has recently shared the stage with Birmingham sensations St. Paul and The Broken Bones, New Orleans’ own Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, and many others.
Individually, Fisher and many of the band’s members have played with such artists as Jason Isbell, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The O’Jays, and Natalie Cole. Their combined experience is evident wherever the group performs. Longtime fans and first-time listeners are equally drawn in to the band’s energy, virtuosity, spirit, and swing.
